FAQ

Q1 – What domestic airlines do you recommend to fly from Bangkok to Krabi?

Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, and Thai Vietjet Air.

There are two international airports in Bangkok (airport codes BKK and DMK). Most international flights fly into and out of BKK which is the main international airport. Make sure you check the airport code before booking your flights.

If you want to stay in Bangkok prior to or after the retreat, please consider the following:

From BKK, there is a sky train or a taxi service that can take you to the city or a taxi service. The taxis are plenty.

From DMK, there is a taxi service that takes you to the city but sometimes there’s a long wait.

I personally like to go to BKK airport better since it’s more convenient to get there by the sky train and the airport is much nicer.

Q2 – Can I use my credit card anywhere and where can I exchange or withdraw money?

Credit cards are accepted in many restaurants and stores but they may charge additional fee (about 3%). You can bring about 10,000 baht in cash to start with.

There are several money exchange places in Bangkok (pretty much in every mall). One of the most popular ones is called Super Rich and there are several locations around the city.

On Koh Lanta, you can exchange money at banks near Saladan Pier or withdraw money from ATM. The closest ATM machine near the Narima resort is about 1.8 km away (about 25 minutes walk).

Q3 – How do I get around Koh Lanta?

You can ask the resort staff to call a taxi for you or rent a scooter/car for a day.

Q4 – How many days should I spend in Bangkok for sightseeing, where should I go, and what is the best way to get around?

At least 3 days. Traffic is usually very bad so I recommend taking a sky train or a subway to go around. Taxis are also fine if it’s not during the rush hour. For taxis, you can hail one from the street or download an app called Grab.

Recommended places to visit are as follows:

Temples: Wat Prakaew (Emerald Buddha Temple) and Grand Palace, Wat Po, and Wat Arun (they’re all in the same area and can be visited in one day). You can take a sky train to Saphan Taksin station and then take an express boat to one of the temples. It’s a fun way to get there.

Night Market: Asiatique – this night market is close to the temples so you can take a boat to get there after the temple visit.

Malls: Icon Siam (a must and is near the temples which you can get there by boat), Siam Paragon, MBK Mall, Central World, Terminal 21, Emquartier, Emsphere, and Emporium. Near Central World is the most famous shrine in Thailand called Erawan Shrine.

Traditional Thai House: Jim Thompson Museum (near National Stadium station)

Restaurants: The best and most affordable food are in food courts in malls (usually they’re located on the top two floors). This is very popular for both locals and tourists.

Rooftop bar/lounges: There are so many amazing rooftop bars/lounges in Bangkok. You can google a list of the best places. The ones that I have been to and really enjoyed are Octave at Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, Vertigo and Moon Bar at Banyan Tree, Above Eleven, and Yao Restaurant and Rooftop Bar.

Make sure you go there in time to catch the sunset.

Observation Deck: Mahanakhon Tower – This place has the most amazing glass floor and the best view of the city. Also, there’s another building next to the tower called Thai Taste Hub Mahanakhon CUBE which has a fancy food court which has some Michelin star restaurants. Make sure you go there in time to catch the sunset.

Weekend Market: Jatujak Market

Spa: There are so many great spas. My favourite one is Divana Scentura Spa. You need to book in advance from the website. Right across from this spa is a very beautiful restaurant which I highly recommend that you can go after called Ma Maison by Nai Lert.

Day trips from Bangkok: I recommend booking a tour to visit Ayutthaya (ancient city). If you have more than three days in Bangkok, I recommend booking a tour to visit Damnoen Saduak floating market (half day trip), and Kanchanaburi (day trip).

Q5 – What are the best areas to stay in Bangkok?

Anywhere near the following skytrain stations: National Stadium, Siam, Chit Lom, Ploen Chit, Nana, Asok, Phrom Phong, and Thong Lo.
